Accessibility at NVAM

The National Veterans Art Museum strives to make all visitors feel welcome! Please contact our Director of Programs & Engagement to have your accessibility needs met.

  • The National Veterans Art Museum dedicates itself to fostering inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) throughout our Museum, community, and the spaces and places we serve. In keeping with NVAM's mission and history, and as leaders and stewards in art and art-based social practices, we believe that engaging the whole person requires embracing the whole person.

We are committed to continuously cultivating and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment where individual differences are expected, supported, and celebrated. We pursue opportunities to improve our institution's culture, strengthen our partnerships, and positively influence the future of the museum and artistic landscape. This work is necessary for the Museum to advance and contribute to the change we hope to see in our communities.

Therefore, it is our responsibility to eliminate the barriers to access and inclusion and prevent harassment and discrimination. We understand that structural barriers are a part of all organizations, and only through work shared by everyone will greater change be made. We recognize that a mix of artists, employees, volunteers, visitors, and partners creates a richer cultural and educational experience for all, and provides more perspectives and resources to expand our impact.

We are committed to ensuring disability access in all areas of our institution, including physical accessibility, sensory accommodations, and inclusive programming.

    Our commitment to accessibility includes:

    • Ensuring our exhibitions and facilities are physically accessible to all visitors.

    • Providing listening assistance like captioning and sign language interpretation upon request.

    • Training our staff and volunteers to be attentive and responsive to the needs of visitors with disabilities.

    • Continuously evaluating and improving our accessibility initiatives in consultation with disability advocates and experts.

By embedding these principles into our operations, we strive to create an environment where everyone can fully participate and enjoy the enriching experiences the National Veterans Art Museum offers.
